How RealHunt Rates Schools

School Atlas uses RealHunt's proprietary rating system to score 4,299 rated Ontario schools on a clear 0–10 scale. Our methodology cuts through the noise of raw test data — combining math and literacy results into a single composite score that's easy to compare across schools, boards, and regions.

Ratings are built on official EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) assessment results for the 2024-25 academic year. We apply Bayesian shrinkage to account for small school sizes, normalize against provincial averages, and weight math and literacy proportionally. The result: a fair, transparent rating that reflects actual student achievement — not school reputation or marketing.

The interactive map uses hexagonal aggregation to reveal school quality patterns by neighbourhood. Green areas have stronger concentrations of high-rated schools. Zoom in to see individual school markers, or use the level toggle to compare elementary and secondary schools separately.
